Despite much media attention focusing on the new iPhone 5 over the past few days, part of the package that this new model offers includes the new iOS6 operating system which will also be available for existing models such as the iPhone 4S. Whats more users of this phone will be able to download the platform 48 hours before the new handset hits the shelves.
On September 19th we will see Apple officially release the new iOS6 operating system. Traditionally UK users have been able to access updates at 6PM so expect there to be some hefty delays at this time as millions of users attempt to install this new software. It is not only the iPhone 4S that will receive the iOS6 treatment as users of the iPhone 4 and 3GS will also be able to get in on the act. 3GS users should be wary however that not all areas of this new platform will work on the phone. A good example of this is the new 3D maps service. Along with phone customers people with either a New iPad or an iPad 2 will have access to the OS along with the latest generation of iPod Touch devices.
The new iOS operating system for the iPhone 4S looks to deliver a number of improvements to the software on the phone and Apple actually quote that there are actually over 200 changes. One of the most major differences is the maps service where Google Maps has now been replaced with a new package developed by Apple themselves. Apple have been hard at work on this project and have not only included 3D views in this service but also turn by turn navigation. Last year we saw Twitter integrated on the OS and now it is the turn of Facebook, enabling users of this site to easily post from any area of the phone rather than relying on logging into the dedicated application.
This time next week we expect millions of iPhone 4S users to be playing with their new iOS6 software and seeing exactly what it has to offer. Downloads are available from the 19th September and two days later we will see the new iPhone 5 hit the market.
